Research Offers New Hope After Spinal Cord Injury
Recent research has led to remarkable breakthroughs, and a new way of thinking for individuals who have neurological injuries and disorders such as spinal cord injury (SCI) and Strokes. Ongoing studies have proven that when muscles are exercised through comprehensive, activity-based strength training in the familiar, repeated patterns, the muscles can "relearn" or "remember" the movement pattern.
More remarkably, many clients will eventually be able to perform these movements by themselves. This repetitive training is at the core of Neuroxcel's® Comprehensive Activity-based Strength Training or C.A.S.T.® training program.
Designed to help people with a variety of neurological disorders, including spinal cord injury or stroke, improve their lifelong health, minimize secondary complications and get the most out of any new neural links to their muscles, C.A.S.T.® builds muscle mass, bone density and strength.
Neuroxcel’s® C.A.S.T.® has four key goals:
- Create an individualized, comprehensive activity-based program and help individuals maintain physical readiness for neural recovery.
- Explore the potential of facilitating neural tracts within the spinal cord that have been spared injury and promote neuromuscular recovery.
- Improve the quality of life by decreasing secondary complications, improving sensory and motor function and increasing self-efficacy.
- Enhance lifelong health and wellness.
As an added benefit, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, known as PNF or the more common term, muscle memory strengthens, tones, and stretches the muscles, improving the client's overall fitness and flexibility.
Recovery through C.A.S.T.® requires individual commitment
What sets the C.A.S.T.® program apart from other programs is the requirement of a deep participation commitment from each individual. The program demands 3-5 days a week, for 2-3 hours each day, of activity-based, restorative strength training.
Our clients receive total body stretching and assessments, upper, core and lower body conditioning. The program provides individual training along with peer group training to encourage camaraderie and support while achieving personal goals.
Neuroxcel's® C.A.S.T.® program is delivered in a state-of-the-art training facility and our trainers spend the maximum amount of time with clients as they use cutting-edge equipment achieve their goals. The C.A.S.T.® program equipment includes:
